Latest NewsVOTE YES ON MEASURE A ON MAY 19th! In the 1970s, Morgan Hill adopted a growth cap to ease the out-of-control development due to Silicon Valley’s rapid rise as a global tech hub. The goal was to protect the rural character of this community just south of San Jose. However, an unintended consequence was more single family homes on the edge of town and too few homes built downtown. Now, Morgan Hill’s idyllic charm is threatened by a disappearing greenbelt and a languishing downtown. Measure A seeks to amend Morgan Hill’s growth cap by taking 500 homes that would otherwise be built on working farms and redirects them downtown. This is good for the greenbelt as it eases the pressure to pave natural areas; good for downtown merchants as more people will be living within walking distance of shops and restaurants; and good for our climate, as it reduces people's need to drive. For these reasons, G-reenbelt Alliance endorsed Measure A and encourages residents to vote for it on May 19th! Find out more on Facebook. SAN JOSE ADOPTS INCLUSIONARY ZONING ORDINANCE Third time was the charm for the City of San Jose when, on December 9th, 2008, the City Council voted 9-2 in favor of a citywide inclusionary zoning ordinance. Greenbelt Alliance and a diverse coalition followed this process for 18 months. It was the third time the City has considered this ordinance, which includes affordable homes in new developments. This policy will help address the significant shortfall of affordable homes in the South Bay. For all press coverage, visit our clippings page. For individual campaigns, see list at left.
